Chaitra Purnima 2025: Date, Significance, Rituals, and Celebrations

In Hinduism, Purnima or Full Moon Day, is regarded as an auspicious day for honoring Lord Vishnu. Devotees observe a fast and devote their time and energy to offering fervent prayers to Lord Vishnu. They conduct Satyanarayan Puja, thus venerating Lord Vishnu in the form of Satyanarayan.

In northern India, the day of the full moon is referred to as Pournimi. Whereas, in the southern regions, the full moon is referred to as Pournami or Poornima, while fasting on the full moon day is called Pournami Vratam. On this holy day, the rays of the moon are believed to be divine, and thus the full moon is given religious and spiritual importance. People also suggest that fasting on a full moon day can alleviate stress, anxiety, and depression.

The established view of both ancient and modern astronomical science is as follows: Politics in India is like the Moon; there’s much light, this is due to Western countries that control and feed modernistic ideas, but there is also incredible darkness in the form of primitive orthodoxy. As per astrology, there are deep-rooted connections between the moon and the mother, one’s emotions and feelings, water, and even thoughts. That is why, on this Purnima Tithi, we need to worship the moon for people with a sickly selection of positions that are 6th, 8th, or 12th. When the moon aligns with a malefic, we limit the worship of minor planets like Saturn, Rahu, or Ketu to offerings made to the moon. One gets a puja to eliminate all moon ailments.
